The 21-year-old is from the Diambars club in his homeland and made his international debut against Mexico in February.
Mendy is a box-to-box midfielder who has also been a stalwart of his country’s Under-23 side, including playing against South Africa at the CAF Under-23 Championships that Senegal hosted late last year.
He featured in Senegal’s 3-1 victory over South Africa in their opening pool match, but was on the bench for the third-place play-off where Owen da Gama’s side got revenge with a penalty shootout victory following a 0-0 draw.
The Diambars club in Senegal was co-founded in 2000 by former France internationals Patrick Vieira and Bernard Lama, and won the Senegalese League title in 2013. They finished fourth in the most recent campaign.
Mendy played in that championship-winning team and should he move to the Premier Soccer League will join compatriot Issa Sarr, who plays for Orlando Pirates.
