Rumours gained momentum in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday that Rakhale had been spotted in Pietermaritzburg with a view to joining the Team of Choice.

However, Mpengesi has assured his club's supporters that the former Orlando Pirates midfielder is staying put.

"How would I sell my player to a team that we are fighting relegation with? Maritzburg United must go down," Mpengesi said.

"Even if Maritzburg United can offer me any amount of money I would not sell Rakhale to them.

"The boy has been doing well. He has revived his career and our supporters love him."

Rakhale 's manager Mandla Mthembu also dismissed talk linking his client with Maritzburg.

"There is nothing like that," he said.

"Do you think it will make sense for Chippa to sell a player to a club in the same relegation battle?

"There is no truth to those rumours."

The Chilli Boys are 15th on the Absa Premiership table with 15 points from 18 matches - four points above bottom-placed Maritzburg.

The Team of Choice today confirmed the appointment of Eric Tinkler as their new coach following Muhsin Ertugral's exit.
