Mlambo joined Chippa United midway through last season from National First Division side Cape Town All Stars, reuniting with former coach Daniel Malesela in Port Elizabeth, yet it seems he will now be heading north to Gauteng.
Wits CEO Jose Ferreira was asked if the deal has been struck between the two parties, yet remained tight-lipped on the matter.
"I don't need to comment about it," he tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"Me not commenting means you have the answer right there. But the club is interested in the player."
However, Chippa midfielder Thami Sangweni might have spilled the beans via social media after saying he will miss Mlambo, having formed a strong partnership with the 25-year-old as they helped the Chilli Boys finish in the top eight last season.
"It is the first time I cry when a player I play with leaves the team ... it hurts,” Sangweni wrote. “But at the same time I'm very proud of him, God be with you and keep working hard.”
When ask by one of his followers what happened to Mlambo, Sangweni replied: "He's going to Wits."
Meanwhile, Wits’ Ferreira confirmed that his club has loaned out goalkeeper Jethren Barr to the renamed National First Division side Stellenbosch FC.
