Darren Keet weighing up Bidvest Wits and Club Brugge offers

The 26-year-old shot-stopper has been training with his former club Wits, the very same club he left five years ago to join Belgian top-flight club Kortrijk.

Keet’s agent Shawn Bester has reveals that his client has been training with the Clever Boys, with a move to Braamfontein or across to Kortrijk’s rivals Brugge, set to be finalised on Friday.

“Yes, he is at Wits for training,” Bester tells KickOff.com. “There is an option for him to sign. There’s discussions with Wits, and discussions with Club Brugge in Belgium, which will be finalised today. We will confirm with either Wits or Brugge, whichever option we choose.”

Keet made 140 appearances for Kortrijk since joining in 2011, but following five mid-table finishes in the League, did not renew his contract with the club.

“Kortrijk offered Darren an offer to extend his contract for another two years, but Darren was seeking an opportunity in Belgium at a club higher up on the log,” Bester reveals. “There hadn’t been many possibilities, except for Club Brugge.

“So Darren won’t stay in Europe just for the sake of being in Europe – he wants to play where he can enjoy his football, and make a living for himself. And he wanted a change from Kortrijk after being there for five years – he’s willing to make a change, as you can’t stay at one club forever.”

Bester reveals that his client would be happy to return to South Africa after spending five years in Europe, with the possibility of adding to his five national caps a big motivation.

“The decision will be based on whether or not the South African offer is very good … if yes, it makes sense to return to South Africa,” he says.

“The main motivation in returning to South Africa is to be in consideration for selection for the world cup qualifiers … and if Bafana do qualify, being part of that team would be his dream.”
