“Bidvest Wits are pleased to announce that they have reached agreement with Mamelodi Sundowns for the transfer of Sibusiso Vilakazi to Mamelodi Sundowns for an undisclosed transfer fee as well as the transfers of Cuthbert Malajila and Mogakolodi Ngele to Bidvest Wits,” Wits said in a statement.

“The players involved have all agreed personal terms with their respective new clubs and the transfers are, therefore, effective immediately.

Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe had take over the negotiating process and met with top Wits officials to close the deal.

The 26-year-old Vilakazi has been the most sought after player in the league for two seasons now but re-emphasised his quality in the final stages of the season when he came back from injury, not only for his club but also for the national team.

He has been on the books at Wits for the last seven seasons, but his 187 league and cup starts have not delivered a major prize which made it difficult for Wits to try and keep him.

He did not appear for the side in the 2010 Nedbank Cup final victory over AmaZulu.

Two years ago Wits promised to help him with an overseas move but since Danish club Brondby made what the club felt was too low an offer, there have been no other overseas suitors for the Soweto-born star.
