On New Year's Day the Clever Boys announced the capture of Jantjie on a pre-contract, even though he was strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Jantjie's deal with the Nedbank Cup champions is set to expire in June.

"Wits showed interest more than the other teams. Their style of play suits the way I play," Jantjie tells snl24.com/kickoff.

Wits have tried getting Stars to release the 29-year-old in the current transfer window, but Ea Lla Koto are reluctant as they are in a fight against relegation.

"For now I'm committed to Free State Stars, I still have a contract with them. As I've said before, I can't say much because I still belong to Free State Stars ... I am focusing on helping the team to be in a better position and avoid relegation," Jantjie says.

"I would like to help the team move out of the relegation zone, as you can see that we are not in a good position. As this team gave me an opportunity to be in the PSL, so I think I owe them double effort to show my appreciation to them."

Asked what has gone wrong for Stars so far this season after they impressed in 2017/2018, Jantjie says: "It's football my brother. Sometimes you win; sometimes you lose, and I think we still have a good team. We can do better. We are playing very well but we just miss chances."

The Bethlehem-based outfit are 13th on the Absa Premiership standings with 16 points from 18 matches.
