ABC Motsepe League team Swallows are set to imminently return to the top tier of South African football after a consortium of backers reached an agreement to buy an unnamed PSL club, widely believed to be the Bethlehem club.

The deal between the Dube Birds and Ea Lla Koto has reportedly already received PSL approval, with only the paperwork remaining.

An official announcement is expected once all the formalities have been completed. The new team will play out of Gauteng and are expected to be renamed Moroka Swallows.

According to a source close to the new Swallows, the consortium of owners have done all their homework and already targeted Igesund to take over as the head coach next season.

“A lot of groundwork has been covered behind the scenes including the issue of the coach,” the source tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“Gordon Igesund remains a hot favourite to take over and his good relationship with the Birds is well known.”

The former SuperSport United coach told this website last month that “nothing is impossible in soccer” after being linked to Eric Tinkler’s Cape Town City job, and at the time also had an offer from an African national team.

Igesund guided Swallows to their best recent Absa Premiership finish in 2011/12 when they were narrowly pipped to the title by Orlando Pirates.
