Lehlohonolo Majoro welcomes Amr Gamal competition, eyes Bidvest Wits resurgence

Majoro completed a shock move to the Absa Premiership champions in December, after abruptly parting ways with Cape Town City.

The former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs man joined a frontline that includes Gamal, who is regarded as a top marksman from Africa’s most successful club Al Ahly, as well as James Keene and Eleazar Rodgers.

However, ‘Major’ is untroubled and says competing with the best is always a welcome challenge, which he relished at all his previous clubs.

“I’ve always managed to prove my worth and I think that [competition] really makes me up my game, because you need such people in your team to go one step higher and push yourself even further.”

Wits succumbed to their eighth defeat of the season when they went down 1-0 to Free State Stars over the weekend, with Majoro making his club debut, and remain rooted to the bottom of the log for a third straight week.

Given the club’s ongoing struggles, the 31-year-old has put personal targets aside and his team’s interests in the forefront as his only hope is to help the club finish in a respectable position by May.

“My goal now is mainly to just work together with my new teammates and try to get ourselves into a respectable position in the league,” he adds.

“I believe it’s something doable and, with the kind of commitment I’ve seen since I started training with the team, it puts me at ease because I believe everyone is dedicated to making sure the team gets to where we belong, which is in the top half of the league.”
