Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi, who now leads Swallows, told EWN on Tuesday that the club was in talks with two clubs – one in the Premiership and one in the NFD – about buying their status.
Highlands Park director Sinky Mnisi told this website last month that the Lions of the North would not be sold following their historic promotion to the Absa Premiership last month.
However, snl24.com/kickoff has been told again that Highlands is the top-flight club Swallows are in talks with after the Chippa United deal fell through.
“Swallows were previously in talks with Chippa United. The offer was lucrative and Chippa was prepared to sell the club and buy a First Division status,” a source divulges.
“But as soon as it was clear that Highlands Park were going to be promoted, that [Chippa] deal stalled because Highlands Park is a Gauteng team and there won’t be any hustling in terms of movement for Swallows.”
Free State Stars have also been mentioned as a possible seller. Swallows were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season having been relegated from the Absa Premiership at the end of the 2014/15 season.
