Matloga spent the past two years of his career playing in the First Division for Highlands but has since moved to Baroka igniting a war of words between the two clubs.
Sinky Mnisi, a director at Highlands, is adamant that Matloga remains under contract with them while Jimmy Ngobeni, an official at Baroka, declares that they have signed the 25-year-old above board.
“Richard is our player and I don’t know why another team would claim a player when they don’t have his clearance and they haven’t even registered him with the league,” Mnisi tells KickOff.com.
“His (Matloga) contract expires June 2017 with an option of a further two years. If the player is disputing the contract and wants to challenge it then he can do so via the PSL who have already confirmed with us that the contract (Matloga) that we lodged with them still has a year remaining with a two-year option. That is where we stand,” says Mnisi.
Matloga is already training with Baroka – who are from his home province of Limpopo.
“The boy is with us and will play for us this season because we did the right thing when signing him. We have done the correct thing by signing him,” says Ngobeni.
The two PSL rookies will square off on the field on September 13 at Makhulong Stadium.
Baroka won promotion as First Division winners while Highlands negotiated their way up via the Play-Offs.
