Zikalala was one of many players that was set to leave The Buccaneers after spending last season on loan at Golden Arrows.
The 32-year-old's contract was set to expire at the end of next season and Arrows coach Clinton Larsen made it clear that he won't retain him next season as he feels he has enough depth in that department.
And the situation was made worse as Pirates beefed up their goalkeeping department by signing Jackson Mabokgwane.
Eagles general manager Richard Makhoba now reveals that Zikalala will play for S'bu Mpisane's side next season.
“We have signed Philani Zikalala from Orlando Pirates [following his release] and our goalkeeping department looks very much healthier than last season,” he tells snl24.com/kickoff.
Towards the end of last season, as Eagles were chasing the promotion playoffs, they conceded some sloppy goals and one in particular in a game against Cape Town All Stars that ended 1-1 when Nimrod Tsengwa fumbled the ball while in his grasp.
