City today announced the signing of the defender, who barely featured at Bucs following his arrival from Platinum Stars in January 2015.

Gumede believes he has better prospects of game-time under coach Eric Tinkler this season unlike when they worked together at Pirates last term.

“There is a lot of opportunities here and I know what I need to do to play and we will see how things go,” says Gumede.

“So it is up to me to show what I want. We sat down with the coach and he told me what kind of a team is this and the direction they are taking and the things they want.

“So since we were together at Pirates, he knows my frustrations of not playing because we used to work together before and now he said he will give me an opportunity to show my potential.”

The 25-year-old admits he was frustrated by his struggles at Mayfair.

“I was not happy with the fact that I didn't play the way I wanted to, but then this is another challenge here. I am a player who always wants to show my true potential and now this is my new adventure and it is something I have to do.”
