Mugwera is among a few other players at Pirates set for the exit door including Lehlohonolo Majoro, Felipe Ovono, Rooi Mahamutsa, Lehlohonolo Masalesa, Thandani Ntshumayelo and Sifiso Myeni.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral has already started wielding his axe having already decided against signing defender James Okwuosa despite a pre-contract agreement, as well as cancelling a deal for Thamsanqa Mkhize.

According to a source close to Pirates, a few players including Mugerwa have been left behind in Johannesburg as the team prepares to settle down in the North West for pre-season.

“The coach has taken only the players he wants to work with next season. Mugerwa is among those left behind,” the source tells snl24.com/kickoff.

Meanwhile, Okwuosa’s agent Mohammed Lawal confirms that his client signed a pre-contract with Pirates in January this year, but things didn’t work out.

“Yes, James signed a pre-contract with Pirates in January, however, now everything is in the past and he is happy to be back at Chippa United,” says Lawal.

The Bucs squad will return to Gauteng in time for the Carling Black Label Champion Cup game against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB stadium on July 30.
