U-17 knockout challenge gets green light

accreditation

This year’s competition will be staged at Marks Park, the training grounds of BidVest Wits, from July 11-13 with 16 clubs Engen corporate sponsorship manager Brad Bergh has reaffirmed their support for the development tournament.

“We have always believed in development and take pride in making our contribution towards the cause through this initiative,” says Bergh.

However, the tournament will be played minus Jomo Cosmos who pulled out saying they have no Under-17 team to participate at the tournament at the moment.

Cosmos have since been replaced by Mondeor Meteors for the competition that was won by Orlando Pirates last year.

A host of players currently playing in the PSL have played in the tournament.

The Kaitano Tembo-coached Supersport United who have recently been on tour in Europe, appear to be favourites to make a strong challenge for top honours.

United will compete in Group A alongside the hosts BidVest Wits, Portuguese-powered Unioa and Meteor.

Draw:Group A: Supersport United, BidVest Wits, Unioa, Mondeor Meteor

Group B: Alex Sheffield, Mogale City, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kempton Park

Group C: Moroka Swallows, TUKS, School of Excellence, Africa Youth Academy
