NFA Media Officer Demola Olajire told KickOffNigeria.com that the change was at the insistence of former coach Berti Vogts, who wanted to give the players an extra day of rest after the Austria friendly on May 27.
“We play Austria on the 27th and the team will leave for Nigeria the next day, flying through Frankfurt. That would have left them with just two days before the match if we played on the 31st, so Vogts suggested that we move the game to Sunday and the NFA saw reason with him and agreed,” Olajire stated.
According to Olajire, future games would revert to the usual Saturday schedule.
