'We deserved it' - LeRoy

From what looked like a disappointing draw, Muntari’s screamer from 30 yards turned the night into one of wild celebrations on the streets of the capital, Accra.

And coach Claude LeRoy said after the match it was just reward for his side, given the number of chances the Black Stars had created.

“We deserved to win because we put in a very good performance. We created very good chances and there were nerves but at the end of the day we won and I am happy about that”, he said.

Claude Le Roy said the win was important and the perfect start to his sides campaign for a fifth Nations Cup title, but warned there was still a long way to go before the country’s dream of winning the title came to bear.

But that didn’t matter to the home fans that were out on the streets the moment the final whistle went at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

Fellow Group A finalists Morocco and Namibia meet in their first match on Monday at the same venue.
