'We were lucky against Sundowns' - Evans

An entertaining afternoon’s football finally saw the Clever Boys emerge 3-2 victors, resulting in the sun setting on coach Gordon Igesund’s career with The Brazilians.

“If I have to be honest, we defended a hell of a lot during the game – I think they had something like 75 percent possession.

_quote"Sundowns were also unlucky in that they hit the woodwork twice in the second half,” Evans tells Kick Off.com.

“Our game-plan was to sit back and catch them on the counter and this worked perfectly for us,” explains the former Supersport United defender.

While the result ultimately cost Igesund his job, Evans thinks that it was just a matter of time before the four-time PSL title-winning coach departed from Chloorkop.

“The writing was on the wall. Rumours had been doing the rounds that the players were not happy and I think the result on Sunday was just the final nail in the coffin.

“I think Sundowns will bounce back though – they are a professional side with top class players who take pride in their performances on the field. Sometimes luck just doesn’t go a team’s way,” he adds.
