The 25-year-old beat off competition from Argentine Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal to become the fifth Brazilian after Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho to claim football’s top individual prize.
It comes as more praise for the AC Milan midfielder after he claimed the European Footballer of the Year crown on December 2 after an outstanding season with the Rossoneri that saw him instrumental in their UEFA Champions League triumph.
Kaka made his name at Sao Paulo in Brazil, before moving to AC Milan in 2003. Just a month after joining he won a place in the first team, and has been a regular ever since, winning domestic and continental titles along the way.
Most recently he scored in the Final of the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday as Milan beat Argentine side Boca Juniors 4-2 in the decider.
