WP United relegated

The former Rabbits boss purchased the struggling Coastal Stream club late last year for a reported R6.2-million and despite replacing his entire team with former Benoni men, only two wins from twenty matches was never going to be sufficient.

Park, thanks to a 43rd-minute goal from Mark Faro and a last minute strike from David Tango, grabbed all three points at the Wynberg Military Ground, and with just one game to play they are now five points above United and have secured their status for next season.

The top-of-the-table clash between Maritzburg United and Bay United at the Harry Gwala Stadium ended in a narrow 1-0 win for the home side – the goal coming from a well-taken second-half penalty by Fadlu Davids.

As a result of this victory, Maritzburg have leapfrogged Bay by two points and look certain favourites to take the title – after a superb late rally in 2008 by the Port Elizabeth club.

Third placed Nathi Lions, who knocked Jomo Cosmos out of the Nedbank Cup, continued their good form by beating Ikapa Sporting 2-1 at Erica Park. The goals came in each half from Nxumalo and Usumuzi. The gap between Lions and Maritzburg is seven points.

In another match, FC Cape Town beat Durban Stars 2-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium with Morne Davids netting a brace.
