
The former Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards mentor cited family reasons for his decision to leave two months ago, but says this has subsequently been taken care of.
"Firstly I need to say that I am still happy at Santos,” he tells this website.
"I have the backing of the chairman (Goolam Allie) and everyone at the club.
"It was nothing soccer-related,” he says of his initial decision. “When my son left to go work in the UK for a year, I had no one to look after my house and dogs. I couldn't leave Cape Town and my wife couldn't come down.
"So that was my situation, but luckily that's been sorted out now. Family life is important and if things aren't going well at home you cannot do a proper job."
Marques is under no illusion of the challenges that await him again this season following the People’s Team’s 11th-placed finish last campaign.
"The idea last season was to bring the club on track, but it was not as simple as that,” he says.
"It’s a process and we're still very much in a rebuilding phase.
"Players come and go, but looking ahead we need to get the right dynamics and quality to give it a serious challenge this coming season.”
