Al Ahly kept their CAF Champions League quarter-finals hopes alive after thrashing over Coton Sport 4-0, with Percy Tau playing a key role on Friday evening.
Percy Tau continued to line-up for Ahly, who restored Ramy Rabia, Ahmed Al-Sulaya, Marwan Attia, Mohamed Abdelkader and Mohamed Magdy Afsha from the abysmal showing at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ahly needed only maximum points and nothing else to keep their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals from Group B alive – having started the clash in third in the group.
For Coton, their campaign in this year’s tournament was brought to an end in their last match where they went down to Al-Hilal Omdurman.
The Eagles made the opening over midway inside the first half when Mahmoud Kahraba charged on the end of a low cross by Attia and tapped in.
Kahraba secured a brace and doubled his side’s lead nine minutes later as he feed off a flowing passing move involving Tau and applied a decent finish.
There was a change between the sticks for the Egyptian giants ahead of halftime after Mohamed El-Shenawy vacated duty for the understudy Ali Lotfi.
Ahly continued their dominant act following the break and aided Kahraba to a hat-trick five minutes in the second half when he combined with Tau to go and fire in from way out.
Tau then joined in the equation as he did last weekend to make it two from two matches four minutes apart with a brilliant finish from the right.
Ahly could’ve gone on to add more to their tally, but weren’t able t get a look in at the other end of the spectrum though bagged a commanding victory to keep their qualification hopes alive.
