Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has suggested that Thomas Tuchel has not used striker Romelu Lukaku effectively following the Blues' UEFA Champions League defeat to Juventus this week.

The Italian tactician, who worked with Lukaku at Inter Milan, has claimed that Chelsea have not yet found an effective way of using their Belgian centre-forward to the best of his abilities.

Lukaku has not scored in his past four appearances for the Blues, having fired blanks against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Manchester City and most recently Juventus, prompting his former boss to comment on the forward's recent goalscoring woes.

"If I had to face Lukaku, I'd tell my players to keep him up the pitch away from the penalty area," Conte told Sky Italia.

"He's always dangerous, though, plus he's so good at giving assists to his teammates. On an open pitch, he has the speed to kill you.

"In my opinion, Chelsea still haven't figured out how to get the best out of him because they've rotated a lot.

"If they can understand him, they'll be the team to beat in the Premier League and the Champions League.

"These are the reasons I wanted him at Inter, just like I wanted him at Chelsea and at Juventus when he was very young."

Lukaku's next opportunity to get back on to the scoresheet will come in a Premier League encounter against Southampton on Saturday.
