Belgian Pro League match report

Brugge aimed to continue their unbeaten run and started with their usual 3-4-1-2 formation, with Tau reduced to the bench after returning from International duty.

The two sides started off rather slowly, with no real big chance in the first 20 minutes of the match amidst a few half-chances in-between.

Brugge however almost broke the deadlock after the 38th minute, but Kreptin Diatta shot wide of Jean Butez’s goal following a good build-up.

The opening came a minute later when Hans Vanaken waved a bit of magic to beat Butez with a well taken volley.

An evenly balanced second half got underway as both sides tested each other’s resolve in the opening couple of minutes.

Brugge looked for a cushion strike and unveiled the services of Tau on 62 minutes with Siebe Schrijvers sacrificed.

Tau almost made his presence felt within minute after setting up Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis, who misfired with the goal at his mercy.

Dennis then turned provider with a short pass near the area in the final 15 minutes to Diatta, who failed to beat Butez with a low shot.

A glimmer of hope nearly appeared for Royal in the last eight minutes, but Simon Mignolet bailed out his charges with a smart save off Jonah Osabutey’s header.

Diatta finally got his name on the score board deep in added time after finishing of an assist from Ruud Vormer but the effort was ruled out for offside by the Video Assistant Referee.

The result stretched their unbeaten run at the top of the table to ten matches and head to their midweek UEFA Champions League clash with Paris Saint Germain in good stead.
