Bundesliga match report Fortuna Dusselfdorf v Bayern Munich 14 April 2019

Bayern Munich moved back to the top of the Bundesliga table after thrashing Fortuna Düsseldorf 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Kingsley Coman was unlucky not to have opened the scoring for the visitors in the seventh minute after his strike crashed against the upright after he was played in by Serge Gnabry.

Coman was not to be denied in the 15th minute as his fiery cross-cum shot from the left side of the box sailed into the back of the net and gave Bayern a 1-0 lead.

Fortuna were growing in the game after the half-hour mark, launching counter-attacks but they did not trouble the Bavarians in the last third.

Coman doubled lead for Kovac’s charges four minutes before the break with a cracking shot towards the top left corner following some good work by Joshua Kimmich in the build-up.

Kovac was forced to make his first substitution in the 53rd minute as goalkeeper Manuel Neuer twisted his ankle and was replaced by Sven Ulreich in goal.

The Bavarians found their third goal two minutes later thanks through Gnabry, who turned home a flick on from Thomas Muller.

Bayern were losing their attacking intensity after the hour-mark and Kovac freshened things up by bringing on Leon Goretzka in place of forward Muller with 20 minutes remaining.

Fortuna were awarded a penalty with a minute left of regulation time after a handball by Mats Hummels.  Dodi Lukebakio made no mistake from 12-yards to give the hosts a consolation goal, 1-3.

Goretzka rounded off the scoring for Bayern in stoppage time with a tap-in after a cross from Robert Lewandowski as the defending champions reclaimed top spot.

Other results:

Hoffenheim 2-0 Hertha Berlin

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Augsburg
