Bloemfontein Celtic coach John Maduka excited about CAF Confederation Cup draw

Bloemfontein Celtic are looking forward to their first test in the CAF Confederation Cup after being drawn against AS Maniema Union of DR Congo.

Celtic are set to make their debut in the continental tournament after qualifying via the Nedbank Cup.

Siwelele were beaten 1-0 in the final by domestic champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who had already qualified for the CAF Champions League, thus granting Celtic a place in Africa.

John Maduka's side are set to meet either Futoro Kings of Equitorial Guinea or Rivers United of Nigeria in the second preliminary round if they get past the Congolese side.

Maduka is excited about the prospect of testing his squad further in the CAF tournament this season.

"This is our first time and we are excited. It's interesting and we are looking forward to it," Maduka tells

"We are playing a team from DRC. That will be an exciting experience and a chance to learn. This will give a chance to our players to gain experience and to the youngsters to grow in football. We are excited and looking forward to it."

Phunya Sele Sele are currently riding the crest of a wave after also qualifying for the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates.
