CAF Confederation Cup match report Maniema Union v Bloemfontein Celtic

The South African side travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday after defeating Black Leopards 1-0 in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday evening.

Celtic qualified for first round of the Confederation Cup after finishing as runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final last season, with the Brazilians already competing in the Champions League.

The side from the Free State province is one of two South African sides participating in this competition with Orlando Pirates, finalists in 2015 handed a bye.

After picking up their first win of the season in the DStv Premiership, Siwelele Sa Masele targeted consecutive victories across all competitions.

It happened just the way coach John Maduka had hoped in the city of Kinshasha, as Harris Tchilimbou netted the opener inside the first ten minutes of the match.

Menzi Ndwandwe added a second in the matter of minutes, as Siwelele went to the halftime interval in front and in firm control of proceedings.

Celtic steadied the rest of the encounter in the second half to pick up the victory and two away goals while at it ahead of the return-leg next week.
