With Paul Pogba's contract at Manchester United expiring in June 2022 and the January transfer window on the horizon, here are five stars who could replace the Frenchman at Old Trafford.

The France midfielder will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club of his choice in January should he decide to not renew his deal with the Red Devils.

While the Les Bleus player and his agent Mino Raiola are yet to reveal where his future lies beyond this season, some reports have suggested that the 28-year-old is on his way out of the club, with United seemingly weighing up some potential replacements as a result.

Aston Villa's John McGinn is the latest star to be linked with the Manchester club, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Scotsman is a key figure for Steven Gerrard's side, however, and Villa are understood to be unwilling to accept any offer below €58 million (R1 billion) for the 27-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who still has three and a half years on his current deal.

Fellow Premier League stars Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips are also reportedly on the Red Devils' radar, with the former having been strongly linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams in the most recent transfer window, although no transfer materialised.

Also in the mix is another Frenchman in rising talent Aurelien Tchouameni of AS Monaco, while RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara is reportedly one of United interim boss Ralf Rangnick's key targets following his arrival in England, with The Sun even claiming that the German coach has already been in touch with the player's agent.
