Chelsea make R1.7 billion approach for Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea have reportedly made an approach to re-sign Romelu Lukaku in a deal worth €100 million (R1.7 billion), including a player in exchange

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Thomas Tuchel's Blues have made a €100 million (R1.7 billion) approach, with left-back Marcos Alonso also going the other way, for their former striker.

However, it is understood that Inter Milan have already rejected this offer as Lukaku is a player they do not want to sell if they can avoid it.

The Belgian has reportedly become a target for Chelsea as Borussia Dortmund continue to be unwilling to move from their £150 million (R3 billion) valuation of Erling Haaland.

Per German outlet Bild, Tuchel is becoming frustrated at the slow movement in negotiations for Haaland's signature and has advised Blues owner Roman Abramovich to seek alternative options.

There is a potential stumbling block in any move for Lukaku, however. The 28-year-old forward declared in June that he is "happy" and "staying at Inter" after speculation linked him with an exit from the San Siro.

Inter's current financial difficulties may tempt the Serie A club into selling the marksman, though.

Fullback Achraf Hakimi, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain, was a player the Nerazzurri were reportedly forced into selling in this window.

However, it seems the Italian giants are not willing to give up on Lukaku just yet, even though the latest Chelsea offer would essentially give them a €26 million (R444 million) profit on the reported €74 million (R1.2 billion) they spent on the striker in 2019.
