Incoming manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly issued his first demand to an underperforming Manchester United squad.

The Ajax Amsterdam boss has earned a reputation for being a head coach who requires a lot of hard work from his players so they can consistently press opposition teams.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November 2021, has often questioned the physicality and fitness of the team he inherited.

With Ten Hag set to step into the Old Trafford helm at the end of this season, he has not yet had the opportunity to instil any changes.

However, Ajax's title race in the Eredivisie has not stopped the head coach from planning ahead for the Red Devils' 2022/23 season.

According to the Daily Mail, Ten Hag has ordered the United squad to report back for pre-season training two weeks earlier than originally planned.

The players were due to be back from their holidays on 4 July, but he has reportedly ordered them to report back on 20 June.

It is said the 52-year-old believes the team need an extra two weeks of rigorous training to ensure they are in the right condition to play the style of football he demands.

It has been further claimed by the Daily Mirror that the incoming boss has watched his new side's last few matches remotely and was left unimpressed with the fitness levels on display.

It is said the Dutchman believes many of United's poor performances and results this season are down to their inadequate fitness levels, something he will be looking to correct.
