Erling Haaland has reportedly made a certain transfer request to Manchester City amid the controversial news around the club.

With the Citizens currently in a potential crisis following the Premier League announcement of 100 alleged breaches of financial rules, an independent commission will now decide their punishment. Sanctions could range from expulsion from the league to a significant points deduction.

According to Spanish publication Defensa Central, Haaland has asked his lawyers to bring forward the release clause in his City contract.

The Norwegian's £175 million (R3.7 billion) release clause will reportedly become active June 2024, but the striker wants to move it one year forward.

The report adds that a potential deal to Real Madrid at the end of the season is a possibility.

Karim Benzema has been criticised throughout the 2022/23 campaign for his performances and it remains uncertain if the Frenchman will stay at Los Blancos as his deal with the club expires when this season ends.

Haaland, meanwhile, has been criticised amid City's recent struggles, with Jamie Carragher claiming that the forward may have picked the wrong club.

Despite scoring 25 league goals so far, it is suggested by many pundits that Pep Guardiola's side are struggling to be efficient since the Norwegian's arrival.

Carlo Ancelotti's side previously expressed an interest in Haaland prior to his move to Etihad Stadium.
