Ethan Chislett: South African midfielder joins AFC Wimbledon ahead of 2020/21 season

South African playmaker Ethan Chislett is ready to continue his meteoric rise after signing for AFC Wimbledon.

Chislett, 22, has made massive strides over the past two seasons moving up four divisions, from the seventh tier of English football towards League One.

Widely considered as one of the most supported clubs in England, head coach Glyn Hodges lured Chislett from Vanarama National League side Aldershot after scoring nine goals and registering as many assists in 36 league games.

His form over the 2019/20 season attracted widespread interest from teams in the Championship and League One but the lure of the Dons proved crucial for the former Southampton academy player.

"There was a lot of interest [in my services] in January, but nothing really materialised for one reason or another, so I've known a lot of clubs have been looking at me over the past 12 months," he tells

"But Wimbledon was one of them that contacted in January and I knew the interest was genuine. They approached me in the summer and I eventually signed the papers."

Chislett admits he's excited to develop further with the third-tier outfit after being singled out as their primary attacking outlet next season, with 44 league games on offer before cup competitions.

"When I signed, the manager said they haven't really got a player like me, a number 10 who can get into the pockets [of space] and really hurt teams," the Durban-born midfielder added.

"He told me I obviously need to have a good pre-season and push on but they're going to have a small squad so the opportunities with definitely be there."
