The England international’s stay with the Gunners expires in June but the club have already opened negotiations, with a financial package said to be the only remaining obstacle.

And, speaking after another impressive display on Thursday as Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 3-2, Wilshere told Sky Sports: "I spoke to the boss and he said he will speak to me. We'll see when he speaks to me and I'm sure it will get done."

Wilshere has enjoyed a swift return to form after making his comeback from the latest in a long line of injuries, and when asked if he was back to his best, the midfielder said: "It's difficult to say. I was happy with my form last year, I'm probably better now.

"I feel better, fitter. I'm getting better each game.

"I'm enjoying my football, another game, another three points, I'm happy."
