Salah netted a staggering 32 league goals last season, which broke the Premier League record for most goals in a single season.
But during his debut season of joy with the Reds, one of his teammates, Danny ings, was getting to grips with regaining fitness after a nightmare spell on the sidelines.
Ings arrived at the Merseyside outfit as a 23-year-old freshly broken into the national team but two separate anterior cruciate ligament injuries restricted the tireless forward to just 14 appearances in three seasons.
"He's not going to have to buy me a car or anything if I win - although he can if he wants," Ings told SkySports about the bet over who'd score more goals in the division.
"He proposed the bet on messages when I left. Hopefully we'll both score plenty of goals. It would be incredible to beat him, wouldn't it? I'm just working every day to improve.
"I've missed a lot of football. But, of course, it's not a cash bet. I wouldn't be stupid enough to put any cash on it. It's just a bit of banter.
"People would think I'm mad to take on that bet if there was cash involved. I don't have a goals target. I don't want to limit myself on what I can achieve. As long as we're winning I'm happy."
Ings has netted twice in three starts during the 2018/19 season while Salah has two from four starts.
