While manager Steve Bruce continues to be linked with an exit from Newcastle United, the club has now reportedly opened discussions with a former Premier League boss for the role.
The Magpies are yet to register their first win of the season, and with eight Premier League games played so far, they are second from bottom with just three points to their name.

Following the side's 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, calls for Bruce to be relieved of his duties have only got louder as reports that the club's new ownership will soon dismiss him continue.
According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle have now entered into talks with former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.
The 43-year-old has not occupied a managerial role since leaving the Cherries by mutual agreement in August 2020, after they were relegated from the Premier League.
It is also said, though, that other candidates are still being considered by the club, including Paulo Fonseca, Frank Lampard, Lucien Favre, and Steven Gerrard.
It is further reported that while the club's new hierarchy is keen to relieve Bruce of his duties, they are not yet in agreement over who the best candidate to take over from the 60-year-old is.
