Giroud has been considered a second-choice striker to on-loan forward from Juventus, Gonzalo Higuain who only arrived at Stamford Bridge in January.

The Frenchman has only enjoyed a good run of the games in the Europa League, while he's only started six Premier League games this season.

“Of course it’s frustrating. Today, I have the impression there is clearly no competition since January,” Giroud told French radio station RTL, according to Sky Sports.

“It’s like that, I know that I will only play in the Europa League.

“I try to do what it takes to be as effective and as important as I can for the team.”

The former Montpellier and Arsenal striker hinted that he could return to Ligue 1 in the summer in the hope of receiving play time.

“The future may be hectic this summer,” he added.

“I’m not afraid to go down a level to have more playing time. It could be I end my career in France.”
