Paul Pogba's Manchester United future influenced by Cristiano Ronaldo?

The situation around Paul Pogba's future at Manchester United is seemingly set to take another turn, with Cristiano Ronaldo's return potentially having an influence on whether the Frenchman stays or leaves.

The Portuguese forward made his second debut for the Red Devils against Newcastle United on Saturday, and helped his team to a 4-1 win with a brace.

In a post-match interview, Ronaldo spoke about how he used his "initiation" to speak to all the players about winning trophies together at the club.

This kind of behaviour from the ex-Juventus striker is believed to have impressed many at Old Trafford, and according to The Athletic, the new-found optimism at the club, which also follows the high-profile arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, means that Pogba is now "leaning towards" the idea of renewing his contract in Manchester.

It is further claimed that the ex-Juventus midfielder could sign a new deal before the turn of the year.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has started this season in fine form, having amassed seven assists in four league games, making him the first Red Devils player to achieve this feat, according to Opta Sports.

It is also suggested that the Premier League side has a contingency plan if Pogba does choose to run down his contract instead, with the player able negotiate with other clubs from January 2022 should he decide not to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are widely reported to have an interest in the France star, but as things stand, he may now stay at United beyond the end of this season after all.
