Premier League match report Manchester United v Crystal Palace 05 December 2021

Manchester United started life under Ralf Rangnick with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

New interim manager Rangnick was in the United dugout for the first time and stuck with the same eleven that overcome Arsenal in their come-from-behind midweek success.

The new era saw a positive start with ten minutes played after Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted a brace in midweek, edged close with a succession of attempts most notably a free-kick.

Another positive bit of play from United had Ronaldo cushion a ball over the top from Harry Maguire to Bruno Fernandes, who volleyed into the ground with Vicente Guaita called across to parry.

Palace received no joy in attack and conceded more openings on the stroke of halftime as Scott McTominany curled a one-two with Diogo Dalot narrowly over target.

The Red Devils showed the first hand off the bench in the first 30 minutes of a stuttering second period, with Mason Greenwood in for Jadon Sancho.

United continued to see the lion share of chances inside the midway period and had Alex Telles’ free-kick from an acute angle clipping off the crossbar with Guaita in a spot of bother.

The Eagles were at the end of their first chance near the latter periods and could’ve been ahead through Jordan Ayew’s shot across goal, but the Ghanaian went wide.

With less than ten minutes gone, United bagged the winner after a cutback in the area from Greenwood landed to Fred who curled in at the first time of asking.

Palace looked to force a stalemate in the dying minutes, but the Red Devils closed all the shops to start their tenure under Rangnick on a high.
