Manchester United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick has revealed Edinson Cavani’s decision on his future at the club amid reports linking him with an exit in this window.

The January transfer window is now in full swing and several United stars are tipped to leave Old Trafford during this period.

The club has already confirmed the loan move of defender Axel Tanzuabe, who joined Napoli for the remainder of the season, while they are also said to be in talks with several clubs over the loan transfer of Ivorian youngster Amad Diallo.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial declared his desire to leave weeks before the window opened and the French attacker has been linked with various clubs, including Sevilla and Newcastle United.

Among those in question over their immediate future is Uruguay international Cavani, who has since told Rangnick of his future at The Theatre of Dreams during a meeting they had last week.

“He came into my office and we spoke for almost half an hour — he told me that he will definitely stay until the end of the season,” Rangnick revealed during a press conference.

“He said this not only because I told him he should stay or has to stay, he did it on his own behalf.

“He told me I can rely on him to give his very best — and also be a role model for the young players. Even if he’s not playing, he will be trying to be the best possible model for the other players.

“This is good news. Edi is one of those people — with his vast amount of experience, with his mentality, his work ethic — he could really be perfect for that.”
