Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told Manchester United he wants to leave the club.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been linked with a departure in the last few weeks as he heads into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for the 36-year-old as potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski, but the club have already come out denied those rumours.

The Times have now reported that Ronaldo has informed the club that he would like to be sold during the current transfer window.

Ronaldo re-joined United from Juventus last season and finished the campaign as the club's top scorer with 24 goals across all competitions.

However, the Red Devils disappointed on all fronts and could secure a sixth-placed finish during the 2021/2022 Premier League campaign.

The report adds that United's failure to secure UEFA Champions League football is one of the reasons Ronaldo has asked the club to sell him.
