Premier League giants Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Senegal international Edouard Mendy from Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Despite spending a world-record fee for a goalkeeper of £71.6 million (R1.5 billion) to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018, the Blues are reportedly in the market for a new shot-stopper after the Spaniard failed to live up to expectation over the last two seasons.

Frank Lampard's side were previously linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak, who has also been linked with rivals Manchester United, but are now closing in on a deal to sign Senegal 'keeper Edouard Mendy, according to reports from The Guardian.
Chelsea are reported to have had a £14.2 million (R313 million) bid for the 28-year-old rejected last month but are nearing an agreement with Rennes over a deal that could rise to a figure of £25 million (R551 million) for the French-born star.
Mendy languished in the lower divisions of France during the early stages of his career but helped Reims earn promotion to Ligue in 2018 before joining Rennes last year, where he has quickly solidified his status as one of the league's standout players.
His form at club level has earned him recognition on the international stage, where he switched allegiances to Senegal, and he was part of the side which ended as runners-up during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Should he sign for Chelsea as is expected, Mendy would become the club's seventh signing of the season after the London-based club completed deals for Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz.
