Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku were involved in a heated and foul-mouthed confrontation during the Milan derby on Tuesday.

There was no love lost between the former Manchester United teammates during Tuesday's Coppa Italia clash in which the Nerazzurri emerged as 2-1 victors over the Rossoneri.

The encounter was marred by a heated exchange between Ibrahimovic and Lukaku which saw both players booked by referee Paolo Vieri for bumping heads, before the former, who had given Milan a first-half lead, received his marching orders just minutes later.

The Swede's dismissal proved to be the turning point in the match as Lukaku netted from the spot in the 71st-minute before substitute Christian Eriksen struck the winner deep into added time.

While it remains unclear what prompted the confrontation, British publication Daily Mail has shed light on parts of what was reportedly said during the heated exchange.

"Go do your voodoo s***, you little donkey." Ibrahimovic allegedly said to Lukaku, who was previously accused of practising voodoo during his time in the Premier League.

The Belgian international was then heard responding,  "F*** you and your wife, you little b****' and 'you want to speak about my mother!?"

Following the match, Rossoneri boss Stefano Pioli lamented Ibrahimovic's sending off as the deciding factor behind his side's quarter-final exit from the competition.

"It [the confrontation] certainly influenced the match, the first booking caused the sending off," Pioli said. "They're big enough and ugly enough, I don't know what they said to each other, it can happen, we need to move past it and think of the next match."
