FC Barcelona and AC Milan are reportedly queuing up for the signature of a surprise Manchester United star.

With the Blaugrana still in the midst of a financial crisis, the club has sought more economical signings as they look to stabilise their books, with the free-agent signings of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay, among others, being examples of this.

A new report has emerged suggesting that the Blaugrana, alongside Italian giants AC Milan, are now lining up to sign 28-year-old Red Devils star Jesse Lingard, whose contract is set to expire at the end of this campaign.

The Rossoneri have been busy transfer-wise over the past few months, having brought in Fikayo Tomori, Mike Maignan, Olivier Giroud, Sandro Tonali, and Fode Ballo-Toure on permanent deals this season, in addition to the loan signings of Brahim Diaz, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Alessandro Florenzi.

Barca, meanwhile, are understood to have let Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi leave the club due to their well-documented financial struggles, and now the club is understood to be considering more affordable options in the market, like that of United star Lingard.

According to the Daily Mail, both Milan and the Blaugrana have expressed a solid interest in acquiring the attacking midfielder's services, and the England international will be allowed to begin talks with a foreign club in January.

Lingard, who has started just one game for United this season – a Carabao Cup match against West Ham United – is also said to have refused to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, despite manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly insisting that the player is in his plans.

It is understood that he is now willing to run down his contract and join a new club, with a view to sealing a place in the Three Lions' squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, although United could look to sell him at a cut-price in January.
