FC Barcelona are reportedly ready to cash in on one of their longest-serving players following a disastrous performance against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League this week.

Having dropped down to the UEFA Europa League for the first time in 17 years, Barca are said to be looking at the upcoming January transfer window as an opportunity to bolster their considerably underperforming squad.

While the club expects to bring in a few new faces next month, some of their players will make their way through the exit door as the Catalan side continues to attempt to balance its books.

Following his lacklustre display against Bayern on Wednesday, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is now up for sale, with the club having already identified his replacement, according to El Nacional.

On the night, the German shot-stopper – said to have a market value of €55 million (R992 million) per Transfermarkt – fumbled Leroy Sane's long-range shot just before half-time, which gave the Bavarians a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, Bayern wrapped up the victory with a third goal without response, with Ter Stegen's mistake proving costly as the Blaugrana suffered an embarrassing Champions League group-stage exit.

Per El Nacional, the Catalans have now decided they are happy to part ways with the goalkeeper who joined them for a reported €12 million (R216 million) from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014.

It is further claimed that Ajax Amsterdam and Cameroon shot-stopper Andre Onana has been identified as his long-term replacement, with the player, whose contract with the Dutch giants is set to expire at the end of this season, having already expressed his desire to leave the Eredivisie club.

Several teams are now expected to make offers for Ter Stegen in January, with newly-rich Premier League side Newcastle United believed to be among them.
