FC Barcelona have reportedly reached a final decision regarding a Manchester City transfer of theirs.

The Catalan giants ended the most recent transfer window as the biggest spenders in the Spanish top flight after paying €153 million (R2.7 billion) to sign a number of high-profile stars, including Raphinha, Jules Kounde and Robert Lewandowski.

After that window closed, Barca president Joan Laporta said the club may not be able to sign players in January due to LaLiga's Financial Fair Play rules.

This has to led to speculation the Spanish giants could look to sign players whose contracts are expiring at the end of this season.

Two footballers who were reportedly targeted as a result were Premier League duo Jorginho of Chelsea and City's Ilkay Gundogan.

According to SPORT, however, Barca have now decided against making a move for the Germany international.

The report adds that while manager Xavi Hernandez remains a fan of the midfielder, the club's hierarchy were concerned about Gundogan's age.

With the 32-year-old's contract expiring at the end of this season, it was claimed that the possibility of signing the player on a free was a "dream" for the Blaugrana, but it appears the LaLiga club has had a surprising change of heart.

Gundogan remains a key player in the City squad, having been voted by the players to replace Fernandinho as captain of the club during the off-season.
