There was late drama for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose permanent exit from Arsenal for FC Barcelona was all but confirmed, while Ousmane Dembele ended up staying put. Here are the biggest deadline-day deals as they happened!

The first high-profile deal of the day, and perhaps the most heart-warming, was Christian Eriksen’s confirmed transfer to Brentford as a free agent.

Having collapsed due to cardiac arrest at the UEFA European Championship just seven months ago, this move presents a stunning return to English football for the Denmark international, who had previously represented Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Speaking of Spurs, it was a busy deadline day for them as they signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski (loan) from Juventus, and saw Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil go out until the end of the season, while Dele Alli secured a permanent move to Everton, who had earlier confirmed Frank Lampard as their new manager.

Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek got himself a temporary move away to Everton in the hopes of more regular first-team football, while Newcastle United took Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa and signed centre-back Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Juve also got in on the action, signing highly sought-after Switzerland midfielder Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach, while LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid sealed the deal for left-back Reinildo Mandava from Lille.

Arguably the biggest news of the day, though, was Aubameyang’s reported exit from Arsenal ahead of a switch the Blaugrana. It had initially been reported to be a loan deal, then it was claimed the move was off, only for it to seemingly be resurrected in the last couple of hours of the window.

It is understood that the Gunners have released him from his contract with them in order to help the deal go through and get his wages off their books, with the transfer set to be made official on Tuesday.

Dembele, meanwhile, was linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Spurs over the course of deadline day, but with no agreement being reached with any party, he will now remain at the Camp Nou until the end of the season, although there are reports that Barca could terminate his contract in the coming days.
