FC Barcelona reveal plans for Lionel Messi & Antoine Griezmann

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has provided an update on several club matters, including Lionel Messi's contract situation and Antoine Griezmann's future.

Speaking during new left-back Emerson Royal's official presentation at the Camp Nou on Monday evening, Laporta seized the opportunity to discuss some of the club's pertinent issues.

One of those is Messi's reported new deal, and while the club chief stated that it is still being negotiated, he also insisted talks are going well and that the Argentine wants to stay at the club.

"Every night I have sweet dreams when I think of Messi," Laporta said, according to AS.

"We're doing everything possible for him to be here, negotiations are going well, in the direction we hoped.

"We are dealing with it and Messi wants to continue, we have to make sure he does. I'm thankful that he wants to stay."

The Catalan giants' president also touched on the situation around Griezmann, who has been linked with an exit in order to relieve the LaLiga side's financial problems.

"We are all happy with Griezmann. He fights just as hard as the rest, he is a great professional," Laporta continued.

"There was some interest in the market, but we are in the same situation as before and if he doesn't request to leave then we will take responsibility of his contract."

Laporta also stated that unless the club gets some "flexibility" from LaLiga, Barca will not be making any more signings in this window.

"We will be able to register all of the new players we have brought in within Fair Play parameters, but we would ask LaLiga for more flexibility, like in other countries, so that we can make more signings," he added.

"While we don't have any room to manoeuver within Fair Play restrictions, we can't sign anyone else."
