Despite their financial issues, FC Barcelona are reportedly still pushing to sign Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.

The Blaugrana are less than two weeks away from the start of their 2021/22 campaign, but are still reportedly aiming to make at least one more acquisition.

The LaLiga club has already confirmed the signings of Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Emerson Royal, while Lionel Messi's new contract is reportedly all but signed.

Barcelona-based journalist Gerard Romero has now stated that the Blaugrana are still plotting to acquire the services of Spain international Laporte, who is said to be worth €45 million (R768 million), according to transfermarkt.

The City defender had a frustrating 2020/21 campaign, during which he fell down the pecking order after the emergence of the fruitful partnership between Ruben Dias and John Stones, leaving him with only 27 appearances across all competitions.

This is not the first time the 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona, with Fussball Transfers reporting last month that City boss Pep Guardiola was ready to part ways with Laporte in a swap deal that would see Antoine Griezmann move to the Etihad.

How the LaLiga giants plan to pay for the Citizens centre-back remains unknown, but according to Romero, Samuel Umtiti is one of the players who will be sold to generate funds for any incomings in the defensive areas.
