Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has been voted the Ligue 1 Flop Signing of the Year by French media.

The Dutch midfielder joined the Ligue 1 giants on a free transfer after parting ways with Liverpool at the end of the 2020/2021 season.

However, the 31-year-old struggled for regular minutes under Mauricio Pochettino this season after playing a total of ,933 minutes across 38 appearances.

As a result, the former Liverpool midfielder was voted the worst signing of the year by Get French Football News, with the player getting over 100 000 votes.

The loss of form and regular minutes this past season has seen Wijnaldum lose his place in the Netherlands squad, a decision which Virgil van Dijk did not particurally agree with.

"I think – but I’m not the national coach – that Gini with his qualities always belongs in orange," Van Dijk said last month, as per the Mirror.

"But he’s not at the best stage of his career. He’s not comfortable in his own skin. He has to accept the choice that the national coach has made."
