Jerome Rothen: I'm ashamed to talk about Lionel Messi like that

A former Paris Saint-Germain star fired some more criticism at Lionel Messi after his display in the defeat to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos staged an impressive comeback thanks to Karim Benzema's hat-trick and secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

The Argentine had a quiet evening at the Santiago Bernabeu and former PSG midfielder Jerome Rothen says they can't keep making excuses for the superstar,

"I'm ashamed to talk about Messi like that, but it's the reality! Yesterday (Wednesday), he walked on the pitch. He made efforts from 10 meters! Modric put him in his pocket!" he said on Rothen s'enflamme.

"The other – it annoys me so much to mention his name – he lost all his balls! Since he's been there, it's been a mess! He has played less than 50% of PSG matches, and when he's here, we're going to find excuses for him by saying that he was coming back from an injury?

"No, there's no time; it was last night that you had to be there."

The Argentine has bagged seven goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for the French giants this season.
