Thomas Tuchel started with a fearsome front four of Neymar Junior, Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi.

PSG’ intentions were laid bare as early as the ninth minute after Mbappe combined with Icardi who wasted no time to bag the opener following a shot from the centre of the six-yard area.

The former Inter Milan striker pushed for a first-half double before the 20th minute, but was unable to dispatch Di Maria’s pin-point cross into the danger box.

It was all PSG following the closing quarter of the half, as Di Maria steered Neymar’s telling delivery way of Reims goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic’s goal.

There were no changes at the break from either side, as Reims went on the attack for the first time in the match minutes in the second half but the move broke down at the final hurdle.

PSG allayed all the fears of a backlash on 62 minutes after Mbappe, who created the first for Icardi, did likewise again as the Argentine completed his brace from a thrilling passing move.

Having provided the encounter’s two goals, Mbappe had a chance to get his own eight minutes from time but the 2018 World Cup winner steered Pablo Sarabia’s delightful pass wide.

PSG still pushed for a third in the final minutes of the match, but were unable to found it as their two-goal tally proved enough for the victory in the end.
